This old church was in Searcy Arkansas right across the street from the First Methodist Church facing Main Street at the corner of Main and Market. I'm a fairly new resident of Searcy, having been here only 40 or so years but this one was still standing while I've lived here. It's there no longer, however.
It was torn down a few years ago and First Methodist owns the land and has built a new building where this one was. I believe the congregation has a newer church now on the edge of town.
The building appears to have had a basement, rare in our area now. Perhaps some of the earlier basements made people realize they didn't work so well.

You have quite the collection. Do all the folks in town know of your fame and they bring photos for you to display.
I have spent many anxious minutes in this church, and I don't mean religious experiences. During all my growing up in Searcy years it was the site of all the piano/violin recitals for pupils of Mrs. R.A.Ward, each spring. In those days we were all required to have our pieces memorized. All of us pupils would be sitting in a group, off from the audience. Until each went up to perform, we would all swear to one another that we had forgotten our piece. I know I thought that, my mind was a total blank - fortunately no one forgot their piece once they were "on stage"....

Thanks for the picture, Barbara. It is one Searcy landmark I never had the foresight to take a picture of before it was torn down. I've always regretted that I didn't.
Barbara, I love these old historic photos. I recently went to a small museum in Wantagh where I grew up and they had some old places I remembered from my childhood....most are gone :(
Steven, I'm an unknown in my town. I really need to know how to count who comes and where they come from. Can you do that?
Anita, thanks for the comment again on your charmed childhood. I'll bet you performed beautifully on that stage!
Carole, thanks and I'm glad you like the pictures.
These pictures were provided by Don Don Thompson to show the groups who performed and practiced at the First Christian Church. Thanks, Don!!
This is a recital program.
