Fall Season in the Newport Beach Area
In Newport Beach, while there are not many trees which have the changing of the colors, you can definitely notice the change in seasons in many ways. One way is that the sun is in a different position in the sky, and therefore the sunsets are different. In this picture, the sun is setting right over Catalina Island, and this photograph was taken from a home in Cameo Shores in Corona del Mar.

Also, in certain areas, such as Newport Shores in Newport Beach, the wild life is different. During spring and summer months, Newport Shores has blue and white Herons, ducks, seagulls and sand pipers just to name a few. During the fall, not only are those birds evident, but a beautiful white swan
comes for a visit. In prior years there have been two swans, but now only one comes back. Occasionally, I have seen swans in Newport Harbor. Also, during the fall and winter months in Newport Shores, the Pelicans will come and visit as well.
In Newport Beach, the temperature is of course cooler, but not cold as in other parts of the country.
Fall in Southern California has typically clear weather, however off shore winds also call the Santa Ana windscan be prevalent. This is view from a home in Crystal Cove with a view of Palos Verdes in the distance.
Crystal Cove is has panoramic sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, Catalina Island, and as far north as Long Beach and Palos Verdes.
One downside of the Santa Ana winds is that the humidity drops very low, and the weather is very dry. This creates incredible fire danger in Southern California which has been going on here for the past several days.
Corona del Mar (which literally means Crown of the Sea) is a community of Newport Beach. Some of the areas include Cameo Shores beaches, and these photos were taken on a cool Fall morning while exploring the beach at Cameo Shores. The sea life is so beautiful.

The beaches at Cameo Shores are stunning with incredible sea life. It is a beautiful place to explore. This photo looks
like a window on the world - a climb through. Here is another one in the distance the waves crash through.

This photo is a view of Newport Harbor looking out towards the jetty - it is very quiet with few boats out that day.
Dana Point harbor (below) as people are waiting to get on the Catalina Express. Many of the people were going to Scuba dive in Avalon, Catalina, and there were quite a few others who were going to participate in the Catalina Triathlon.

This is a view in Corona del Mar, and the water is incredibly clear as you can see the kelp in the water. There are a few boats anchored in the distance, but overall it is a pretty quiet boating day.
This last photograph is a sunset in the Newport Shores area of Newport Beach.

Hi Sharon, You make this all sound so blissful and the photos are absolutely gorgeous.
That was awesome! I am very happy you entered the Fall Eye Candy contest. Thank you for introducing me to such a lovely area. :-)
Sharon, beautiful pictures and well displayed. I am going to have to learn how to better use my pictures! Thanks for a gorgeous post!
Shirley - thanks for your nice compliment. It is for the eye candy contest, so I wanted to describe the area.
Carolyn - thats for the heads up about the contest - anytime there is a photography contest - I will try and enter. I love to take pictures. Thanks for your very nice compliment.
Russell - thanks for the compliment. I love to take pictures and enjoy sharing them!
Sharon: Absolutely breathtaking pictures!!! Every season in Newport is wonderful, but as you described, they all have exciting differences. Your fall description is great. I'm sad about the Swan coming back this year, alone. They mate for life, I believe....
Thanks for sharing!
Debe - thanks for the nice comment. I do love the changing of the colors in other areas, but fall is definitely evident here. With regards to the humidity and fires, they are scary and it is so sad the people that lost their homes. Even today there is so much smoke and particulate in the air.
Hi Sharon. These are great pictures. Makes me want to visit! Good luck in the contest :)
Kat - thanks for commenting. I am sad for the swan as well asI am in agreement that they mate for life. It has been different, the first year she (or he) came back she was alone. Then the next year there were two. The last couple of visits there has only been one swan. I do worry about them because there are predators that live in the area (coyotes). We used to have a flock of geese, and now they are all gone - so sad.
Kara - thanks for the comment, and I found out about it today, just in time!v Please come and visit.
Sharon, Your pictures of Newport Beach and the surrounding areas are just stunning! What georgous shots you captured and thank you for sharing them!
Carole - thanks so much for the very nice comment. Have a great evening!
OMG is this beautiful!!! Makes me want to go right now! Watch out for them swans. They sure are beautiful but they are mean!!
Tami - thanks for the compliment. The swan stays back, but she (pr he) knows if we have bread for it. Last year, my daughter fed it by hand.
Sharon, this is beautifully done! It looks like an exhibit in a gallery.
Silvia - thanks so much - I love taking pictures!
Great shots Sharon!!!! Newport is a gorgeous area, one of the best.
Kim - thanks so much for the nice compliment. Fall in Newport is different than fall in other areas, the differences are subtle, but they are there.
Sharon, great photos and info on the Newport CA area. I couldn't help but remember Cabo when I saw the circular "climb through" in the rocks. Newport is certainly a beautiful area.
Gena - you are right - I didn't even think that it kind of looks like /cabo (I think I have seen the same rock formation there). The one in Cameo Shores is not that tall - maybe about 4 and a half feet high, but the present is what is on the other side!! The tide pools and spectacular views.
Fall is a great time of year in So. Cal. I enjoyed your photos. Makes me want to take a vacation.
Greg - yes it is . . . right not the fog just rolled in! Fall is a great time at the beach! Thanks for commenting!
Sharon ... nice article and photos here about fall season at Newport Beach. Good work. Please keep it up. Harrison
Harrison - thank you so much for the comment here, I love fall it is a great time to enjoy the beach.
Great photos, Sharon! Kind of nice to see water that isn't in a bottle! LOL
Kent - thanks for the compliment about the photos. I still like to drink water in a bottle though!
