Perfect timing. I needed a new notebook, and don't want to lug a 7 lb. brick anymore. It looks like netbooks weigh around 2 lbs. and cost about 1/4 as much as my old laptop. Thanks for the tip. I ordered one at NetbookComputers.com and I got free shipping.

I looked into these. The processors are basically terrible. If you do anything besides light officework it just cant do it. They also have little or no storage but again should be enough. I just bought a laptop and the reason I did not buy a netbook is because when they first talked about netbooks the intent was small and affordable except now that they are out they often cost more than a notebook. I just got my notebook for $499 which is quite comparable to a netbook and yet my processor is about 3 times as fast and I have 3+ gb of memory and a 250gb hard drive. A comparable netbook cant get a processor that fast and doesnt have that much storage.

They are cool and in fact I was very close to buying one. But after doing a lot of research I realized what was wrong. I think in a few years it will be different and then they will be about $200 which for what they do is appropriately priced. Some netbooks cost $800+ !! Thats crazy. Just my opinion.

I think I'm going to have to snag one of these just because they're cool.

Thanks for the info.

These sound a lot like a souped-up PDA....  Hmmm...  Might need to check this out.  Thanks!

Your opinion counts bigtime. Thanks for commenting. Netbooks aren't for everyone, and the technology is changing, even as I write this. The prices dropped two weeks ago, after a vendor fair in California. Also, there are about 60 brands coming to market, priced as low as $99 (coming THIS year). I would urge anyone to do their research, because netbooks, like REALTORS, are not all alike.

The smaller they get the less they have is the motto of the computer world, netbooks are good for routint offsite notetaking or dragging to the office if you are working with another computer at home. However they are never meant to be the sole primary computer by any means.

Can it have a DVD reader/writer plugged into it?

I would like to use it for word processing, surfing and playing solitare.  Plus I would need to be able to write my files to a DVD.   Is this appropriate for that useage?

How long does it last on battery?

Thanks
