Retiring?.....think tax Relief in Brunswick and the Golden Isles of Georgia

The State of Georgia's Income Division's Tax website offers the following information:

Taxable Social Security and Railroad Retirement on the Federal return are exempt Georgia Income Tax.

A retirement exclusion  of $30,000 (exclusion will be increased in 2008 to $ 35,000) is allowed provided the taxpayer is 62 years of age or older, or the taxpayer is totally and permanently disabled. Retirement income under Georgia law is defined as interest, dividends, net rentals, capital gains, royalties, pensions, annuities in addition to the first $4000.00 of earned income. Earned income is income from a trade or business, wages, salaries, tips, or other compensation.  Both spouses can qualify for the retirement exclusion but each much qualify separately.   Even part-year residents and nonresidents can benefit from this exclusion.  Part time residents and non-residents must prorate the retirement exclusion.

In addition to a homestead exemption in the amount of $10,000 of your assessed property value, a owner occupied home in Glynn County Georgia is entitled to apply for the second tier of our  homestead exemption made available through the passage of legislation known as the Scarlett-Williams Act. 

In 2000, this act was passed and named for its legislative sponsors.  This second tier of the homestead exemption only applies if the property is your primary residence.  As long as the owner does not sell, relocate or substantially remodel the property, the assessed value will be frozen. This legislation was designed to protect the residents from the many property value increases in Glynn County's due to recent years many increases in values.

When you spent most of your life living on the coast of Georgia, you don't look for the transition to traditional fall colors. Our fall colors are green and blue. The old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words applies.

The sky is blue at sunset as is the water looking off Jekyll Island across the intracoastal waterway to the Sidney Lanier Bridge. This is the final photo taking after a bike ride on the 1st Sunday in November.

Actually, while we enjoy the sun in the summer, it is a nice change of weather but not change of color in the fall. Green and blue may not be considered traditional fall colors, but they are the tradition in Brunswick and the Golden Isles of Georgia.

Logan takes a quick walk on the beach before events.......

Many of my loyal readers (yes, my mother and 2 other people I pay to be) will know that Logan is the star of so many of my posts. I feel like Logan is one my babies (although he is growing up).

(sorry....no good Georgia Bulldog fan can miss a plug for The Dawgs....)

While I have a 21 year old son, John who is the light of my life, I find that when starting a new project from the ground up, the development feels like a baby and comes with responsibility and awe and joy. While participating in all aspects of design including entrance, signage, homes styles, home plans, exterior and interior finishes, you feel extremely overwhelmed and excited.

So much time is spent in and on these projects that becoming greatly attached to their outcome makes you expectant. While watching the area develop and grow, I see how well I have done tending this place that will will be called home.

Because I am having 4 new babies this year (The Plantation at Golden Isles, The Cottages at Golden Isles, The Estates at Golden Isles and The Retreat at Golden Isles), I have been working like a mother expecting quadruplets.

So today, The Brunswick News has put both of my babies in the paper. I am a proud mother and want to show off Logan and The Plantation at Golden Isles. While this project is really still in its infancy, it is great to see the media recognition for the hard work my developers and builders along with The Chapman Realty Builder Team put into making a place you can be proud to call home.
