Check out the Stone Walrus Gallery for their wonderful Christmas array of decorations and gifts. Their 60% off sale continues, as they are clearing out their inventory, preparatory to closing down. (Note: their building sold and the gift/retail part continues until inventory is all gone).

Bruce Wood & Matt Salo have purchased the former TLC location in Harbour Centre. Bruce is the exceptional chef, from Ottawa, who created the buzz at Rock Salt Cafe. Cooking classes are in the offiing, and we can also expect Bruce to create a sterling take out menu. A name change is forthcoming, too.

The Library is looking for help. Donations are welcome, and can be sent to SSI Public Library, 129 McPhillips Avenue, Salt Spring Island, B.C., V8K 2T6.

Drop by my personal office, and say hello, next time you're in Ganges "seaside' Village. I'm in the Clement, Murphy, Woodward building, at the corner of Lower Ganges (main road) and Rainbow Roads, with parking behind, off Rainbow. My office has a side entrance, off the lawn area of this property, and my windows look out onto the main road, plus across to the Harbour and marinas. Easy to find!

I'm also very pleased to announce that Jean Davis has come to work with me, as my Executive Assistant. The office number is: 250-537-8763. If I'm not "in", it will automatically go through to my cell (250-537-7647).

Look forward to saying hello "in person". (P.S. Although I am running my licence through an international company, where I'm an Associate Broker, and its main office is in Whistler, I am definitely still living and still working on Salt Spring Island! I am the local representative for the Sea to Sky Premier Properties company on Salt Spring Island and the Southern Gulf Islands. Local representation, then, with a true global exposure presence -- the best of all worlds!).

The results of the civic election are in:

Salt Spring re-elected George Ehring and also Christine Torgrimson (who replaced Peter Lamb on that "ticket"). The new CRD director is Garth Hendren. The bid to add two more trustees was turned down, but the bid to go forward with an expansion of the solid waste project in Burgoyne Valley was passed.

Salt Spring Sunday thoughts...

Sunday on Salt Spring, in the "off season". It's not raining, although the day is a "pewter grey" (that burnished light behind the clouds). The Village is busy, people strolling, some stores are open (Sunday hours), brunch is on at several restaurants, and those who were active in helping with the civic elections are resting up (election was yesterday). The incumbent trustees were returned, and we have a new CRD director. The proposal to increase the number of trustees for Salt Spring was defeated, and the proposal to increase the solid waste project in Burgoyne Bay Valley was passed. The usual Salt Spring balancing act, perhaps? This morning, while looking out the window, towards the sea, an eagle landed on a nearby tree. We were at eye level with each other. A majestic bird, indeed. He was probably scanning for his next meal, and I'm sure he saw me, too. How nice when one can regard nature, and from inside a warm house. A Sunday rhythm is definitely a quieter one, in this Island lifestyle.

Looking for a great space to enjoy a coffee and a "goodie"??? Salt Spring is lucky to have several! Give yourself a treat, and enjoy a "sweetie" out and about.

Rendezvous Cafe is in the Salt Spring Marina complex, facing over towards Moby's and the marina docks. Owned by Bruno and Brigitte (you may remember them from the Saturday Market in the Park, during the "season", and from the Tuesday Farmer's Market in Ganges Village, also "in the season"), this wonderful hint of France, in "downtown Ganges", is not to be missed. Time it for a great quiche, right out of the oven, and enjoy the pastries that Brigitte is justifiably famous for. They do special orders (ask to see the book of suggestions), and they also cater. Practice your French, admire Bruno's great photographs (on the wall), and soak up the European flair along with the delicious bakery goodies, a la francaise!

Another super spot is Cafe Talia, on Hereford Avenue. Light lunches, coffees and teas, plus pastries (some suipplied by Brigitte). A lovely window on the world. Winter hours are Tuesday to Saturday, and, in the "season", they're open seven days a week.

Salt Spring Inn is offering Afternoon Tea on Tuesdays, 1 to 4 p.m. Enjoy!

Auntie Pesto's, in Grace Point Square, also offers coffees/teas & desserts, as does the Tree House Cafe, adjacent to Mouat's Home Hardware.

T.J. Beans, Salt Spring Roasting Company, Barb's Buns...all in the Ganges core area, also offer treats for coffee or afternoon tea times.

Give yourself a treat!

While in the Village, wander the galleries, and check out the opportunities for some holiday gift giving.

Jill Louise Campbell's Gallery offers cards and appealing prints for those gift suggestions! If you haven't dropped by for awhile, be sure to take in this wonderful ambiance.

Jewellery items can be found at Frankly Scarlett, and at J. Mitchell Gallery (local artists, here).

The Salty Shop offers cards and stocking stuffer ideas.

West of the Moon is a great children's store, with books and toys.

Salt Spring Soapworks is there with boudoir beauties!

Small items are also available at the Salt Spring Woodworks location at the corner of Upper Ganges and Churchill Roads (these are the people who organized the great Sculpture Garden, that also involved Hastings House).

Houseboat, at the corner of Jackson and Hereford Avenues is full of decorative ideas, too. Don't overlook this eclectic venue.

Windlflower Moon, next door to Admiralty Foods, on Fulford-Ganges Road, offers the metaphysical options, gems and flower remedies, and eclectic clothing lines. Lots of ideas for gifts, here, too.

More suggestions? Ask for "Li's List"!

Your ideas? Always welcome!
