Christmas trees are coming - the first of 4 Matson ships filled with trees
from Oregon and Washington has arrived. Matson said the arrival of this
year's trees has been spread over four trips. The bulk of the trees will
arrive on the S.S. Maui on Nov. 22, and the S.S. Manoa on Nov. 29. The first
small shipment arrived on the Manoa on Nov. 15. Those trees were targeted
for retail store displays and limited Neighbor Island sales. A final
shipment of trees will arrive on the Maui on Dec. 6.

While I'm on the topic of Old Hawaii (yesterday I posted about Old Wailuku), I just have to give a shout out to Eddie Flotte, a watercolor artist who is passionate about the old buildings and people here on Maui. Here's a unique video featuring his watercolors of Paia and Makawao towns. This will really tug at your heart if you're the nostalgic type... it's about 6 minutes with a musical soundtrack.
Historic Paia and Makawao still retain a lot of the old-timey character from a bygone era, when sugar was king. Maui has a rich history of immigration, which makes for a nice melting pot of nationalities and cultures. All cultures are celebrated here and the best things of each gets knit into the fabric of the islands.
If you're visiting Maui, be sure to spend some time in the north shore town of Paia, and then drive up Baldwin Ave to the cowboy town of Makawao - you won't be dissappointed. Let me know if have any questions about where to eat.

OLD WAILUKU TOWN - Maui County Hawaii
I took these the other day when showing a Wailuku homes for sale to some clients - young first time home buyers from Maui. You know, some parts of Old Wailuku are just dripping with charm - classic homes and businesses from the 1920's and 30's. Some of the most affordable housing and real estate on Maui is in Wailuku. Wailuku is also the County seat, with the government offices and all that.
Then I grabbed some lunch at the Ichiban Okazuka - that's like local-style Japanese take out food. Got the chicken katsu mini plate, with veg. Damn it was good. Busy spot at lunch time in Old Wailuku... plenty of walk in traffic.
Sometimes it's really tough being a Maui Realtor - the things you have to do! Aloha from Wailuku Maui Hawaii.
