I have been mulling over a recent mailer I received that announced that the Center Grove School System was planning on selling the property and schools of West Grove and North Grove due increasing maintenance costs because of their age (both built in the 60's) and the limitations of building on or renovating on small 12 or so acre lots. This issue hits particularly close to home for me (no pun intended) as I live directly beside one of the schools. I can see a playground from my kitchen.
This has been all well and good since 3 months out of the year as well as evenings and weekends (the majority of the time we are home) few people are there. My children will not start school with the convenience of the school being right behind us I guess but, I am actually in support of the 5 new schools vs 4 new and my kids at one of the 2 older, less equipped schools in the district. For the most part, Center Grove Schools have been great neighbors and we'll miss them! Now, with potential for this 12 acre lot to become commercial (to match the majority of the remaining area), my home will literally be smack in the middle of commercial! If I only knew what kind of commercial it might be... the question becomes stay and hope for the best (our home is great and will fit our needs for the next 5-10 yrs) or hit the road now in case our resale value is affected? What would you do!? Looking forward to hearing the communities response to this plan! :)
