Just How Far Does 100K Go on a 100 Year Old House?

You may recall that I taped an episode for HGTV's "My House is Worth What?" last fall that featured my historic house. In case you are not familiar with the show, each episode features three homeowners from different parts of the country. The homeowner presents what they have done (and spent) to improve the value of their home to a local real estate expert. The realtor then provides a professional assessment of how well the homeowner's efforts paid off in terms of the value of the property in the current market.

We have lived in our century old Victorian house for 9 years and have spent well over 100K on major renovations. While we do not have any plans to sell in the near future, we are interested in the amount of equity we have accumulated as a result the improvements. We love living in a historic house that has been modernized throughout!

The episode that features my house will air on Saturday, September 13th at 7:00 EST on HGTV. I hope you will tune in to see the projected return on our investment.

Tickets are $35.00 each and a limited number will be sold. All tickets are prepaid--they will not be sold at the door. Additional information is available at www.tredyffrinhistory.org and www.tredyffrin.org.

This year's tour includes 8 historic homes from 4 centuries--18th-21st. The 21st century home was created using materials from 5 antique barns. The houses are located in Malvern, Wayne, Berwyn and Strafford. I am pleased to have my house included on the tour!

Duportail House in Chesterbrook, 297 Adams Drive (off Chesterbrook Boulevard) is the location for pick up of house tour tickets on tour day. Participants will receive a house tour badge, brochure with house addresses and a brief history of each house and a map indicating parking locations for each property. After picking up tour information, participants are free to begin touring homes starting at 1:00 pm. Houses will remain open until 5:00 pm. There is no set order to see the homes. Each house will be staffed with a Tredyffrin Historic Preservation Trust board member and volunteers.

Learn Disc Golf in Tredyffrin

You may be aware that a 4 hole disc golf course opened in Wilson Farm Park last year. The park is located behind Chesterbrook Shopping Center, at the end of Lee Road. Disc golf is played just like ball golf, but with a disc (Frisbee) using special targets (baskets) for the holes.

The Friends of Wilson Disc Golf, a volunteer group that enjoys playing and supporting disc golf, are providing instruction on how to play this unique sport. The instruction is intended for elementary and middle school children in the Tredyffrin-Easttown School District. Family members are welcome to join their kids. In the class, basic throws, including drives, approaches and putts will be covered. Practice time is included. The instruction is offerred the last Saturday of each month from 9-11 am. There is no cost to attend, but you must pre-register and bring a disc for your own use. Space is limited. To register, send an email to info@wilsondiscgolf.org.

Additional information is available on the group's website at www.wilsondiscgolf.org. Sounds like fun, huh?
