Follow Up Post - Sunriver Village - Controversy??

As promised I am following up on last weeks County Commissioner Meeting hearing public testimony in regards to the Sunriver Village Mall. Arriving at the Great Hall in Sunriver, OR at 6:00 on a Wednesday April 30th the room was already buzzing. The anticipation of what was going to be in store for the evening was heavy in the air. All the chairs were filled and some - myself included found a perch on the stairs. The Deschutes County Commissioners; Mike Daly, Dennis Luke and Tammy Baney Melton and staff sitting in the front called the meeting to order. Looking around I notice Sunriver security is here in force - an ominous presence - what are they expecting to happen? Only time will tell how this evening is going to play out.

Well, the evening progressed. One after another members of the Sunriver community come before the Commissioners to state their pleas - in support of SilverStar's proposed revitalization of the current rundown and depleted Sunriver Village Mall. Around 50 of the approximate 300 people gave testimony for two and one half hours this evening. How many in opposition - you ask? From my last post - you all may be wondering - where is the controversy? Me too! This had to be the most civilized "controversy" in history! This community - at least those who chose to attended this hearing - have banded together to show their full support for SilverStar and the new mixed-use retail and residential village. Please see my original blog at Give-it-Your-Best-Shot SilverStar posted 4/30/08.

The biggest "controversy" of the night was the timeline for when the text agreement decission would be made final. After much discussion it was finally agreed that final text agreement regarding SilverStar's proposal will be discussed at the regular June 4th 10:00 AM Commissioners Meeting. The date certain to close the record on this hearing will remain open until the middle of summer.

Well, that is it for now - I will keep you posted as the plans unfold. Thanks you for catching the buzzzzz!

The Central Oregon "Desert" Destination

Looking for a weekend getaway? Let me tell you about the Central Oregon "Desert". Head South on HWY 97 through La Pine and take a left onto HWY 31. At the 29 mile marker you can head north to Fort Rock or follow HWY 31 East for another 31 miles to Silver Lake. Fort Rock and Silver Lake are two of the remaining Homestead era communities that remain in the sparsely populated Lake County. Fact: Even though Lake County is one of the largest per land mass measurement counties - in 2000 it is populated by less than 7500 people. What is here? Fort Rock is phenomenon and a great hiking and exploration adventure. The Dunes are not too far away and this is family fun for the four wheelers and sand rails. The Lost Forrest is an amazing and should not be missed. Come and see what you can see - wildlife is abundant. Big horn sheep, antelope and bald eagles are a few of the spectacular sights that can be seen.

40 Acres with views!

I Won! - IRON MAN Preview - A Much Needed Date Night for Us!

I won! I won! Two complimentary tickets to the "preview" of IRON MAN four hours before the midnight release on May 2, 2008. The tickets I won through my undying persistence (and silly stubbornness of hitting redial on my cell phone) paid off when I finally made it thru to someone on the other end of the line and I had WON! My first time ever winning on the radio! All thanks to the PEAK 104.1, in Bend, OR. You can only imagine my excitement when I called my husband to tell him the news. Ironically, he had been listening to the radio earlier and had heard of the "midnight opening" of IRON MAN and wondered who in their right mind would stay up until midnight to see any movie - he is obviously not the night owl that I am! Needless to say he was not elated with my news. I had researched show times prior to my phone call and learned that we could see the show earlier - now he too was amped at the prospect of having a "movie date night" that we had not allowed ourselves since before our second child (we now have three) and the release of the second "Harry Potter" film!

IRON MAN: is a star studded and action packed film. Robert Downey Jr., Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow are a few of the entertaining cast mambers. The film begins with billionaire and weapons manufacturer, Tony Stark, who after a life-altering ordeal, and a change of "heart", invents and becomes IRON MAN. As IRON MAN he fights to undo the wrongs of his company and mentor. This is 2 hours and 6 minutes of action and super special effects! The soundtrack (available May 6) is a must have blast from the past with tunes from AC/DC "Back In Black" and Black Sabbith's own " Ironman".

We emphatically enjoyed our evening and the chance to spend it together. A Thank you, again, to the PEAK 104.1 for the opportunity to see IRON MAN at the Regal Old Mill 16. (It was the Old Mill 10 the last time we were there!)

And a super special thanks to my husband for going to Bend on a "work night".
