Bloomington Hills St George Neighborhood Information

Bloomington Hills is a neighborhood within St. George Utah. It is located to the east (and slightly north)pond of Bloomington (which are at the southern end of St George). In the early 80's, Bloomington was considered "the place to be" by residents. Bloomington Hills was considered more of an affordable second choice option. Now, Bloomington Hills is a beautiful, equally desired neighborhood.

Bloomington Hills is built around the city golf course, St George Golf Club, which the city took over in 1983. This course features a par 73, 18 hole course and is approximately 7,200 yards. The par 3's are said to be the most difficult in Washington County, with at least 190 yards on average. Like neighboring Bloomington, homes can be purchased (and a few lots remain) directly on the course, or you can purchase away from the golf course. Bloomington Hills has many neighborhood amenities such as parks and trails.

There's an area near the golf course which offers Condo or Townhome style living. Most lot sizes in Bloominton Hills are approximately a quarter acre. Since Bloomington Hills is literally built up on a hill, many residents can enjoy a spectacular view of the golf course, entire valley, and nearby red mountains which Southern Utah is famous for. It's ironic that Bloomington Hills came as a "second choice" to Bloomington, when you have the privilege to see such an incredible view from your property – it seems to me that this would invite more popularity. I suppose the residents who "settled" for the more "affordable" option don't have much to regret.

pondTrails are existing and new trail plans are currently underway for Bloomington Hills. It's a great place to live if you are an outdoor enthusiast. There is a wonderful pond off the golf course filled with ducks, swans and other wildlife for visitors to enjoy a peaceful resting spot. Neighbors are outgoing and friendly, but you can find this throughout the entire St George area, which is part of the charm. The "small town" feel packed with big city amenities is what Bloomington Hills and St George have to offer.

Overall, this neighborhood is a desirable place to call home. New schools have opened in the area and students can enjoy the close proximity to the school as well as enjoying the new construction and modern amenities it brings. Affordable homes or luxury living are available in this community. If you are interested in locating a home in this community, visit my Property Search page. What is there to do in St George Utah?

As a real estate agent in St George, Utah I have realized that it is easy to fall into the real estate only mentality. Agents spend a lot of time previewing property and answering typical questions: "How much?" "What the square footage?" "Where is this located?" Recently I found myself stumped when an out of town client asked me the most basic question of all... "What is there to do in St. George?".  Derailed from the almost scripted question and answer session I had to repeat the question, in an effort to buy some thinking time.

snow cyn parkI suppose I take for granted that anyone familiar with St. George would surely realize all of the wonderful amenities and attractions the St George Utah area has to offer. Snow Canyon State Park is located only a few miles from the center of St George. There are wonderful hiking and bike trails not to mention a spectacular view from above, just off Highway 18 near the Winchester Hills and Diamond Valley Subdivisions.

There are three local reservoir lakes: Sand Hollow, Quail Lake, and Gunlock. Theselakelakes are all within an approximate 15-minute drive from St George. All three lakes offer water sport recreation such as: boating, fishing, swimming and beach area. Sand Hollow allows off highway vehicle (OHV) use as well as the lake amenities. The lakes will all provide the beautiful and scenic red mountain backdrop. Also, throughout the tri-cities (St George, Hurricane, and Washington areas) there are small fishing ponds.

Of course here in St George, Utah off road recreation is popular. Many residents ride their ATV's direct from their backyard into miles of desert. Sand dunes and typical desert terrain are enjoyable from many areas around St George and Hurricane.

Golf is available at almost every turn. With many courses to enjoy in St George, SunRiver, Washington, and Hurricane residents and visitors can always discover a new challenging course. There are City, community and private golf courses throughout Washington County. You will find a course for every level of experience and various degrees of difficulty.

snow canyonUtah is known for the Greatest Snow on Earth, however St George is known for not getting any snow. We do have our snow days, but it is better describes as two inches, lasting two hours, around two days per year. It pales in comparison to the slopes found in Northern Utah. However for the snow skiers, you will only have a 45-minute drive to Brian Head where you can enjoy a day on the slopes.

Parks, trail systems, and family festivals are always around town. Take advantage of the many social events, perhaps a car show, the Downtown Thursday Night Street fair, or possibly enjoy the latest play or musical going on at Tuachan Amphitheater. Maybe you'll desire a night out in Mesquite or Las Vegas. There are shuttle buses that can accommodate your travels. Other nearby State Park and recreation places include Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, Grand Canyon, Lake Mead or Lake Powell. These destinations are all 2 hours or less by car.

So next time someone asks me "what is there to do in St George?" I suppose my answer will be "What isn't there to do...?". Who says it doesn’t snow in St. George Utah?

Who says it doesn't snow in St. George, Utah? Well, me...that's who. I am always correcting my friends and family from out of state when they tell me they could never live in SNOW! "It NEVER snows in St. George!" That's my reply. Well here I am with wet feet (I do not own snow shoes...I live in St George) having to make a public apology to everyone I have debated the subject with. It DID snow in St George. Last night created a beautiful winter wonderland for the City of St George Utah. We all awoke with icy driveways and walk ways.

They Don't Call it "Snow Canyon" for Nothing! "Snow Canyon"

I have to say, it's the most beautiful time I have been wrong. It actually does snow in St. George; usually we receive 1 or 2 dustings per year. Normally, when it falls, it only sticks to elevated surfaces (grass, cars, bushes etc...) and usually melts with in an hour or so. Not today however! This will go down in the books for one of our more heavy snow falls. It's sunny and beautiful out now, and already the snow is melting. By this afternoon I expect most of it around the city will be gone. Many photographers were out today capturing the beauty.

Many locals were late to work or appointments, due to the snow. However, the spirit of St. George was in full force, we were able to witness one man assisting motorists that became disabled in the icy conditions. He had a 4-wheel drive and was able to lend a hand to many in need. This is the reason I moved here, the sense of community pride runs strong every day. To offer assistance, unsolicited, it's an amazing city.

I only hope that there were not too many perspective real estate buyers visiting from out of town!

If you have any desire to live "snow free" consider St. George. Although I can no longer claim "we never get snow" I can tell you that when we do, it is the most beautiful (and short lived) experience you can witness. St George Utah Airport Update

Talks of St George Utah opening a larger Airport have been circulating for over 20 years. In the past few years the rumors are finally becoming a reality. Currently, the city is in the process of final land acquisition which is on schedule for completion by the end of February. The airport should be open in 2011. The current St George Utah Airport has 110,000 available seats per year and the new airport will provide approximately 200,000 seats. The new airport will include regional passenger jets and the potential for additional flights to more locations such as Seattle, Dallas, Denver and Phoenix. The new, larger facility will accommodate more passenger traffic which will keep up with the population increase the St George Utah area is experiencing.
